Charles Russell Crisler, 88, of Marion

Charles Russell CrislerCharles Russell Crisler, age 88 of Marion, passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 at Heartland of Marion.

He was born in Rushsylvania on March 24, 1928, a son of the late Thomas Russel and Mary Olga (Ansley) Crisler.

He was a 1946 graduate of Rushsylvania High School.  After high school Charles served his country in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in education.

He was a very dedicated teacher and principal in Columbus City, Meeker, Morral, and Ridgedale Elementary Schools.  He retired in 2004.   When he wasn’t teaching he enjoyed working at Dick Bayless’ Greenhouse and Kaye’s Interior Decorating.

He enjoyed volunteering at LOVE INC.  He belonged to and held offices in the Marion Senior Citizens Center and the Retired Teachers Association.

He is survived by sisters, Esther Jones of Rushsylvania,  Marlene (Joe) Thomson of Valley Center, Kansas and Mary Lou Harden of Seffner,  Florida;  sister-in-laws, Nancy Crisler of Marion Mary Kay Crisler of Dayton, and Marilyn Crisler of Bellefontaine; many nieces and nephews; and many friends and co-workers.

He was met at the gates of Heaven by his parents; sisters June Birt, and Norma Daum; brothers Merlyn Crisler, Wellington Crisler, and Welman Crisler.

Memorial contribution may be made to LOVE INC., 196 South Main Street, Marion Ohio 43302 or a charity of your choice in honor of Charles.

Charles’s family will greet friends on Saturday January 28, 2017 from 10am to 12pm at the Meeker Community Center 6400 Harding Highway West (SR 309) Marion, Ohio.  A celebration of his life will follow at 12pm at the community center with Pastor Kathy officiating.  Burial will be in the Rushsylvania Cemetery immediately following the service with military honors.
