Darrell Leroy Stoner, age 79, of Marion, beloved father, grandfather, and friend was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, January 21, 2017, from Marion Pointe.
Darrell was born in Delaware County on July 13, 1937 to the late George L. and Eva Mae (Cook) Stoner. He graduated from Pleasant High School in 1955, where he played varsity basketball, and then after graduation, he served in the United States Army. Darrell married Judith A. Speck on November 5, 1960 in Marion, and together they shared over 52 years of marriage. He retired as an account manager from the Fulfillment Corporation in Marion after 30 years of employment.
Darrell was a fan of all sports, but he thoroughly enjoyed the game of golf, and he always looked forward to the weekends when he could spend time on the “links” with friends and family! He was also a big fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, both football and basketball.
Darrell is preceded in death by his wife, Judith A. Stoner, and his sisters Donna Campbell and Marty Snyder. He is survived by his daughter Debbi (Iain) Gilchrist; two grandchildren, Kyle Gilchrist and Amanda (Matt) Heiskell; sister and brother-in-laws Patsy and Huck Howard and Kay and Jerry Northup; nieces Lee Ann (Warren) Kohler, Jenny (Dale) Ebert, Kim (David) Cooke, Wendy (Scott) Arn, and Connie (Robbin) Speck; a nephew D.J. (Carol) Snyder; and very special friends Don and Patsy Hayes, Jerry Gorby, Barb Dickason, and Darlene Bond, among others.
A memorial service will be held at a future date in either late spring or early summer.
