James M. Harty, Jr., 94, formerly of Marion

James M. Harty, Jr.James M. Harty, Jr., age 94, died Monday January 8, 2018 at Willow-Brook Christian Home in Worthington, OH. He was born November 3, 1923 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the second child and oldest son of James M. and Goldie (Bartholomew) Harty.

The family moved to Alexandria, VA while Jim was in grade school, and from there he entered the United States Army in 1941, and served most of his time onboard ship. After the war ended, he returned to the U.S. and served for a further year in Texas and California; he achieved the rank of Master Sargent, and was discharged in 1946.

He then moved to Marion, OH where his parents resided, and was employed by the Army Depot until he joined the newly established Fulfillment Corporation of America. He was employed there for 38 years, retiring in 1985.

On January 15, 1949 he married Bertha C. Moloney, and they lived in Marion with their five children. Bertha preceded him in death in December of 2013. He is survived by his children: Maureen (Peter Faletti) Harty, Linda Photos, David (Christy) Harty, Donald (Melissa) Harty, and Kevin (Susan) Harty. He is also survived by a brother, Raymond (Jane) of Indianapolis, and sister Annetta Horta of Costa Mesa, CA; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers Robert, Clifford, and Rolland, and sisters Dorothy and Joan.

Visitation will be Wednesday January 10, 2018 at Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel 347 West Center St., Marion from 5PM to 7PM and also on Thursday from 10AM until time of service; Funeral service will be Thursday at the funeral home at 11AM with Fr. Ryan Schmit officiating; Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
