A “spunky, stoic Scot”, Nancy Stutts Parsons, age 91, of Marion, Ohio, and formerly of Candor, North Carolina, died early Friday morning, December 22, 2017, following a decline in her health after a recent fall.
On October 6, 1926, Nancy was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of the late Eva (Campbell) and John Tyson, who was a POW during World War II. Being the oldest of three daughters, much responsibility fell on Nancy and she was one of the main caretakers of her family during the war. Towards the end of the war, Nancy fell for a young American soldier, Ralph Stutts. After their engagement, Nancy returned to Ralph’s hometown of Candor, North Carolina.
Having a fun loving personality, Nancy made fast friends with many in Candor, a town which quickly became home to her. Many welcomed her with open arms, one of which being Sara Lou Thompson and her family. Nancy also became a faithful member of the Candor Baptist Church, and had worked in retail in many clothing stores there.
Getting a second chance at love, Nancy married Walt Parsons in October of 1977. During their wonderful twenty five years together, they shared a love for visiting the beach and hosting parties at their home. He preceded her in death in 2002.
In 2010, Nancy enjoyed seven more great years of life in the care of her daughter, Anne, with her precious cat, Bell, always by her side. She loved their Saturday shopping adventures, searching for yarn, books and clothes. She also looked forward to getting the mail every day in hopes of receiving letters from her friends or a church bulletin from Candor, NC.
A product of her raising, Nancy taught herself to be quite the seamstress, making her own clothes for many years of her life. Later in life, she loved quilting, crocheting, and knitting for the joy of making gifts for others.
Having a huge heart for animals, Nancy had many canine companions over the years in her Yorkshire Terrior dogs, her “yorkies”. She also loved to eat, having many favorites, such as all types of bread, chocolate and ice cream.
A social butterfly, Nancy was always up for a night on the town.
Overcoming a difficult childhood, Nancy made the most of her life in so many ways. She had a spunky way about her and a precious accent, so you couldn’t help but to fall in love with her.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Anne Stutts of Marion, and her partner, Julie; a sister, Dorothy Muir of Oxford, England; her North Carolina and Ohio families; and her housemate, Madelyn.
Including her husband and parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Donald Stutts; and two sisters, Eva Campbell and Molly Tyson.
Services honoring Nancy’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, DENZER Chapel, 360 E. Center St., Marion, with Chaplain Pam Lamb-Hart officiating. Her family will greet friends for an hour prior to her service.
