Kathleen R. Anderson, 91, of Marion

Kathleen R. Anderson, age 91, of Marion, died peacefully on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family.

On February 10, 1927, Kathy was born in Waldo, Ohio, the youngest of seven children of the late James and Laura (Klingel) Frey.

The first employee at Showplace Rent-to Own, formerly known as TV Outlet, Kathy helped her son, Gary, start the business and do whatever was needed to help the business grow. She dedicated over thirty years to the company, working mainly as a bookkeeper, until she was 87 years old. Her energy and attention to detail were hard to match at Showplace, which was especially impressive at her age. Previously, she worked at Lord’s Jewelry and Todco.

In the early 1960’s, Kathy was introduced by mutual friends to Elmer “Andy” Anderson. They were married on June 29, 1963, and shared forty seven years together. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2010.

Throughout her life, one of Kathy’s favorite pastimes was playing cards. She loved getting together with friends to play cards, teaching her grandchildren to play cards, and she even enjoyed all the card games she could find on her iPad. She also was a big NBA basketball fan, appreciating their talent for the past thirty plus years. She especially loved rooting on her beloved Cleveland Cavaliers, and her favorite player, Lebron James.

Most important of all to Kathy was her family, and she truly cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially loved traveling with her family, and some of her favorite trips were to Disney World, Vegas, and on their house boat.

For so many reasons, Kathy was quite a woman. She was a woman of strength and resilience, overcoming many challenges in life with grace. She was full of energy, often tough to keep up with. She was very bright, and “sharp as a tack up until the very end.” She overflowed with positivity, seeing the best in everyone and always having a positive and kind word to say. Kathy truly was an inspiration to anyone who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her two children: Kim (Richard) Dixon and Gary (Mary Ann) Ferriman, both of Marion; ten grandchildren: Brian (Ashley) Dixon, Alan Dixon, Kristen (Brendon) Malik, Lauren (Dustin) Leib, Sheri (Ryan) Miracle, Keith (Heidi) Ferriman, Jason (Tara) Mills, Jeremy Mills, James Buffalo, and Victor Hamilton; nineteen great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Casey Malasky; two grandchildren; and all six siblings: Harold Frey, Rose Porter, Wyona Porter, Wesley Frey, Hilda Foos, and Violet Smith.

Services honoring her life will be observed at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Waldo Cemetery, with Rev. Rob Howard officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Capital City Hospice, 2800 Corporate Exchange Dr #170, Columbus, OH 43231.

On behalf of her family, they would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone at Capital City Hospice for their continuous, tender care of Kathy, to Joanna Beveridge for caring Kathy for many months, and to her card buddy and special friend, Diane Collins, for the special attention she always paid to Kathy.
