Gary Grant Heller, age 76 of Marion, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Ohio State University James Cancer Center.
On July 22, 1942, he was born to the late Maurice W. “Bud” and Marietta (Grant) Heller in Marion, and on August 10, 1963, he married his wife Judith (Lowry) Heller at Meeker United Methodist Church. They celebrated 55 years of marriage this August.
Gary graduated from Ridgedale High School in 1960, and he worked for 44 years as the manager of data processing at the Marion Power Shovel and Bucyrus International until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the Y Men’s Service Club and the Meeker United Methodist Church, and he was an avid fan of the Ridgedale Rockets, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cincinnati Reds. He loved playing cards, golf, and coaching women and men’s softball. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, as well as spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Judith Heller of Marion; his daughter Gwen (Brian) Higgins of Marion; his sons Gregory Heller of Hickory, North Carolina, and Brad Heller of Plattsburgh, New York; his grandchildren Wade and Wes Higgins; his sister-in-law Barbara Heller; his niece and nephew Kim Heller and Matt (Linda) Heller; his great-niece and great-nephew Samantha and Dylan Bagley; his great-great-niece Ava Bagley; and his special cousins Terry (Holly) Sandridge and Kent (Kara) Sandridge, both of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents Maurice W. and Marietta Heller and his brother Maurice R. Heller.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 2 pm to 4 pm at Meeker United Methodist Church, 6630 Main St. Meeker, Marion, Ohio, 43302. A memorial service will follow at 4 pm with Pastor Kathy Herr officiating.
