Edward J. Shaw, age 87 of Marion, passed away at his home on Friday, November 09, 2018.
Edward was born on November 6, 1931 in Belle Center, OH, the son of Edward H. and Olga (Newman) Shaw. He graduated from Rushsylvania High School in the class of 1949. He continued his education at Tri-State University School of Business.
Edward was a veteran of the Korean War, serving his country in the United States Army. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Good Conduct Medal.
Edward began his career at Cripps Paint & Glass, followed by Ballinger Paint & Glass. He then opened his own business, Delaware Glass Company. In retirement, Edward couldn’t sit still, so he went to work at Kurtz Brothers Composting Facility.
Edward was united in marriage to Catherine Romano who preceded him in death in 1983. In 1985, Edward was united in marriage to Thirza (Hornbeck) Ballinger who survives.
He was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church and attended the Berean Sunday School Class. Edward enjoyed giving back to his community and he did so by volunteering for over 20 years at Ohio Health Hospice, formerly Marion General Hospice. He also volunteered at the Marion Senior Center as a bus driver. He enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Cleveland Indians. With a background in farming, Edward delighted in planting his annual vegetable garden and tending to his beautiful roses.
Those who remain to honor his memory include his beloved wife Thirza M. Shaw; children: Doug (Lisa) Ballinger, Karen (Ray) Taylor, Kathy (Alexander) Wilhelmsen and John (Holly) Ballinger; grandchildren: Ryan Ballinger, Kyle Ballinger, Dustin Ballinger, Wayne Taylor, Nathan Shifflet, Anthony Shifflet, Cody Ballinger, Evan Ballinger and Lindsey Wilhelmsen; 13 great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Catherine Shaw; siblings: Esther Lotz, Leonard Shaw, Mary Parish, Freda Neal and Clara Shaw and one great grandchild, Blake Ballinger.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel, 347 West Center St., Marion from 4PM to 7PM; Funeral service will be Wednesday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 241 South Prospect St., Marion at 10:30AM with Kevin Kehn officiating; burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center, OH at 2PM.
