With 10 days of rest and following the 2-0 loss at New England on Wednesday, Sept. 5, The Crew (12-9-6, 42 pts.) travels to New York to face the Red Bulls on Saturday, September 15, at Red Bull Arena. The Black & Gold looks to remain in playoff contention with only seven games left in the regular season.
Saturday’s match will kick off at 7 p.m. ET and be televised live regionally on FOX Sports Ohio, with Dwight Burgess and Duncan Oughton calling all the action. The game can also be heard in English on News/Talk 610 WTVN and on-line at TheCrew.com, with Neil Sika on the call, and in Spanish on La Mega 103.1, with Carlos Cordova behind the microphone.
The match comes on the heels of the loss at New England, which capped a busy seven-game in 21 days stretch that saw the Crew go 4-1-2. The Black & Gold hopes to bounce back against the Red Bulls who are currently in third place in the Eastern Conference.
This is the second and final regular season match between the clubs. The Crew succumbed to New York early in the season when it lost 4-1 on March 25, with Chad Marshall recording the lone Crew goal.
New York is also coming off a long period of rest, having played D.C. United to a 2-2 draw on August 29. Since the first meeting last March, the Red Bulls have lost rookie goalkeeper Ryan Meara to injury (out for the season with hip surgery) and replaced him with former Crew keeper Bill Gaudette. New York will be able to count on the firepower of its two forwards Kenny Cooper and Thierry Henry who have combined for 25 of the team’s 46 goals this season.
The Crew will hold a viewing party at BBR Bar in the Arena District (106 Vine St., Columbus, OH 43215) as the Crew Pub Tour presented by Budweiser continues. Crew Brand Ambassador Frankie Hejduk will be in attendance with prizes and memorabilia as the televisions will be tuned to Fox Sports Ohio for the Black & Gold’s match at New York which kicks off at 7 p.m. (ET).
The Black & Gold will only have four days of rest before returning to the pitch to host Chivas USA on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Crew Stadium.
