With one score in the second half, the Indianapolis Colts sealed a 17-13 victory over the Cleveland Browns in Sunday’s game at Lucas Oil Stadium. Kicker Adam Vinatieri extended Indianapolis’ over the Browns to 17-13 with a 38-yard field goal at the 3:19 mark of the third quarter. The Colts marched 61 yards in 17 plays and took 8:34 off the third-quarter clock with the scoring drive, their third of the game.
Cleveland rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden completed a 33-yard touchdown pass to fellow first-year pro, wide receiver Josh Gordon and drew the Browns to within one point of the Colts, 14-13, at the 11:53 mark of the third quarter.
The drive covered 80 yards in six plays and took 3:07 off the clock.
With the touchdown reception, Gordon became the first Browns player since Brian Robiskie at the end of the 2010 season to have a receiving score in three consecutive games. He is the first Browns rookie to achieve the feat since Andre’ Davis opened the 2002 season with a touchdown in his first three games.
Gordon is the first Browns rookie with four or more receiving touchdowns in a season since Davis’s six in 2002.
Courtesy of Andrew Luck’s two rushing touchdowns, the Colts held a 14-6 lead over the Browns after the first half of play in Sunday’s game.
Luck rushed for his second touchdown of the game from five yards out on a bootleg to the right side of the field and extended Indianapolis’ lead to 14-6 over the Browns with 7:41 left in the second quarter.
Luck’s touchdown run capped off a 14-play, 76-yard drive that lasted 6:20.
Greg Little’s 14-yard touchdown reception drew the Browns to within one point of the Colts at 7-6 with 14:01 remaining in the second quarter.
Punter Reggie Hodges caught the snap, but dropped the ball as he went to set it for Phil Dawson’s extra point attempt. It was the Browns’ first failed point-after-touchdown attempt since Dawson had a try blocked at Chicago on Nov. 1, 2009.
The 16-play, 90-yard drive took 8:22 off the game clock and was the longest possession of the season, both in terms of plays and time of possession.
