YMCA Swim Team Wins Second Straight Meet

The Marion Family YMCA Swim Team was victorious in their second meet of the season, beating Galion YMCA & Hardin County YMCA in a triangular meet on October 20th at the Marion Family YMCA’s W. Keith Davis Natatorium.

“We had another solid effort today from all of our swimmers”, said Evan Shanley, Aquatics Director & Head Swim Coach. “We work hard in practice on becoming versatile swimmers who have the ability to compete in a lot of events well. Consequently, we swam some kids in events they’re not used to, and even in events they haven’t swam ever before. They all did an excellent job, and building confidence through being able to swim a lot of events is important to our team.”

The Marion Family YMCA set two new team records on Saturday. Grant Gooding set the 8 & U 50 Backstroke record with a time of 42.30. The previous record was held by Steve Temple, set in 1974 with a time of 44.60.

Ben Dunham set the 8 & U 200 IM record with a time of 3:30.60. The previous record was held by Jeremy Clark, set in 1991 with a time of 3:41.05.

Shanley is looking forward to the future with his team.

“We have a smaller group traveling to the Wapakoneta Invite this weekend, but we look forward to strong competition and a strong showing in Wapakoneta as well.”
