Browns Smack Chiefs 30-7

Cleveland BrownsOn the strength of two rushing touchdowns from running back Trent Richardson and three Phil Dawson field goals, the Cleveland Browns earned a 30-7 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Cleveland Browns Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Browns, currently on a three-game winning streak, improved to 5-8 with the win, while the Chiefs dropped to 2-11 following the setback.

Dawson converted a 34-yard field goal and his third kick of the day extended the Browns’ lead over the Chiefs to 30-7 with 9:04 remaining in regulation. Dawson’s kick capped off a six-play, 18-yard drive that wide receiver Joshua Cribbs set up with a 38-yard return on Dustin Colquitt’s 39-yard punt.

Richardson scored a one-yard touchdown and gave the Browns a 27-7 lead over the Chiefs with 14:17 remaining in the fourth quarter.

In scoring the touchdown, Richardson tied Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Brown for the most rushing scores by a Browns rookie. He also equaled Brown and Eric Metcalf for the most total scores by a Browns rookie (10) in team history.

Richardson’s run completed a 12-play, 82-yard drive that took 6:25 off the game clock.

The Browns held a 20-7 lead over the Chiefs after three quarters.

Dawson converted a 24-yard field goal and increased the Browns’ lead over the Chiefs to 20-7 with 8:42 remaining. The field goal was Dawson’s second of the day and capped off a five-play, seven-yard drive that saw two touchdowns come off the scoreboard due to penalties.

Tight end Benjamin Watson caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Brandon Weeden, but he and wide receiver Greg Little were in motion at the same time and not set at the snap. The illegal shift penalty was followed by an offensive pass interference infraction on Richardson.

The defense set up the Browns’ second scoring drive of the third quarter when Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn had a pass attempt deflected by cornerback Sheldon Brown. Safety Tashaun Gipson picked off the pass and returned it 23 yards.
