Ohio State won its 30th consecutive game at home with an 88-50 win over visiting VCU Thursday night at Value City Arena.
The win moves Ohio State to 9-3 with one more non-conference game before the start of Big Ten play. The loss drops VCU to 6-7.
Tayler Hill led the Buckeyes with 20 points, one of 11 Buckeyes in the scoring column tonight. Raven Ferguson had 15 points off the bench and Aleksandra Dobranic scored a career-high 14 on 7 of 8 shooting as the Buckeyes shot 57 percent for the game and assisted on 26 of their 37 field goals. Twelve of the 26 assists came from post players.
Ohio State was just as sharp defensively, holding VCU to 30 percent shooting and leading by as much as 42 points midway through the second half. The Buckeyes forced 18 turnovers and turned them into 20 points at the offensive end.
There was no Christmas break hangover tonight as Ohio State led 16-2 at the start and raced out to a 47-21 lead at halftime. Ten different Buckeyes found the scoring column in the opening 20 minutes, led by Hill’s nine.
Darryce Moore enjoyed a solid game off the bench with eight rebounds, a career-high six assists and four rebounds in 14 minutes. She had sat out the previous game with an elbow injury. Starters Ashley Adams and Amber Stokes each had seven points while Stokes added six assists. Martina Ellerbe had six points.
Robyn Parks and Janniina Koivunen led VCU with 13 points.
The Buckeyes will close out non-conference play at 2 p.m. Sunday when they welcome Howard to Value City Arena.
