The Cavaliers came into Wednesday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings with the second-worst record in the NBA. They had lost two straight overall, eight of their past 10 and 13 of their past 16.
It’s hard to believe they could look worse, but they did in a 97-94 loss at The Q.
After coach Byron Scott elected to change his starting lineup, inserting C.J. Miles at shooting guard in place of rookie Dion Waiters, the Cavs looked disorganized on offense and disinterested on defense, especially in the third quarter when they made just 7 of 25 shots shots and fell behind by 10 points.
“I don’t think we played hard enough for long enough,” Scott said as his team dropped to 7-26. “We can’t afford to do that. We can’t take a play off. We can’t take a quarter off. We can’t take half a quarter. We just can’t do that right now. I think our guys have to understand that.
“For the most part, we compete. We play hard. But we can’t take a second off.”
In spite of the third quarter, and the Kings’ domination inside, the Cavs managed to recover and lead by one point twice in the fourth quarter.
