Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jordan Cameron with less than one minute to play, and led the team to a 31-27 victory over the Minnesota Vikings at Mall of America Field at the H.H.H. Metrodome Sunday.
Down by three points with 3:21 to play, Hoyer engineered an 11-play, 55-yard drive to seal the come-from-behind victory.
Kicker Blair Walsh’s 30-yard field goal finished off a 13-play, 60-yard drive and gave the Vikings a 27-24 lead over the Browns with 10:47 left to play in regulation.
The Vikings converted two of their three third downs on the drive, including a seven-yard scramble by quarterback Christian Ponder that had a 15-yard facemask penalty on linebacker D’Qwell Jackson added to the end of the run.
The Browns and Vikings were tied at 24 after three quarters of play.
Ponder scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, and brought the Vikings even with the Browns, 24-24, with less than three minutes to go in the third quarter.
Ponder and the Vikings faced a third-and-goal from the Browns’ eight-yard line, when his offensive line opened up a hole in the left side of the defensive line, and allowed the third-year signal-caller to rush for the score.
The Vikings’ three-play, nine-yard scoring drive was set up by a Browns turnover.
On second-and-21 from the Browns’ own five-yard line, Hoyer dropped back into the end zone and was hit on the throw intended for wide receiver Greg Little. Linebacker Erin Henderson caught the interception and returned it nine yards.
Courtesy of a 17-point second quarter, the Browns held a 24-17 lead over the Vikings at halftime.
