Two second-half touchdowns gave the Baltimore Ravens just enough of a lead, as they improved to 1-1 on the season with a 14-6 win over the Cleveland Browns at M&T Bank Stadium Sunday.
Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco threw a five-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Marlon Brown and extended the Ravens’ lead over the Browns to 14-6 with 8:57 to play in regulation. Flacco engineered the eight-play, 42-yard drive, and converted two third-down situations, first a third-and-10 from the Browns’ 42-yard line, and then, a third-and-eight from Cleveland’s 24.
The Ravens held a 7-6 lead over the Browns after three quarters of play. The Ravens took their first lead of the game when running back Bernard Pierce rushed for a five-yard touchdown with 5:13 to play in the third quarter.
Pierce’s run capped off a 12-play, 80-yard drive that took 5:50 off the third-quarter clock. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco went three-for-three for 40 yards on the drive, and all three of his passes were on third-down plays.
To start the half, the Ravens forced the Browns to punt after they had moved the ball the 18 to their 47-yard line. On the ensuing punt, Browns punter Spencer Lanning appeared to have pinned the Ravens at the one-yard line. However, the ball was downed by a Brown who was already in the end zone.
On the strength of two Billy Cundiff field goals, the Browns held a 6-0 halftime lead over the Ravens.
