The Detroit Lions’ offense scored 24 unanswered points in the second half, while the defense did not allow a single point after halftime in their 31-17 win over the Cleveland Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium Sunday.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford’s fourth touchdown pass of the day was a 10-yard score to tight end Joseph Fauria, who was on the receiving end of three of those scoring passes from the veteran signal-caller.
Stafford and the Lions faced a third-and-four from the Browns’ 10-yard line when he took the Shotgun snap and lofted a pass toward the right of the formation and into Fauria’s hands.
Kicker David Akers converted a 51-yard field goal attempt on fourth-and-four from the 33-yard line and extended the Lions’ lead over the Browns to seven points, 24-17, with 6:04 to play in regulation.
Fauria put the Lions in front of the Browns, 21-17, with a 23-yard touchdown reception from Stafford at the 10:35 mark of the fourth quarter.
Fauria’s second touchdown of the day finished off an eight-play, 67-yard drive that took 4:14 off the clock. Fauria has only six catches on the season, but four have gone for touchdowns.
The Browns held a 17-14 lead over the Lions after three quarters of play.
Earlier in the second half, Stafford threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to running back Reggie Bush, and the Lions drew to within three points of the Browns, 17-14, with 8:57 to play in the third quarter.
Stafford threw a screen pass to Bush, who scooted through traffic with the help of a couple blocks and muscled his way through a tackle and into the end zone to cap off an eight-play, 79-yard drive that took 3:59 off the third-quarter clock.
Three second-quarter scoring drives staked the Browns out to a 17-7 halftime lead over the Lions.
