Ameryst Alston converted the go-ahead three-point play with 44 seconds remaining and Amy Scullion added two late free throws to help give the Ohio State women’s basketball team a 62-59 win over Marist in day two of the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge Saturday night at Value City Arena.
The win moves Ohio State to 5-1 on the season while Marist dips to 1-4.
The Buckeyes trailed by as much as 10 points in the second half, thanks to 12 made three-pointers by Marist — six by Leanne Ockenden. But the Buckeyes kept chipping away and made the plays they needed to down the stretch to pull out the win.
Senior Darryce Moore led the Buckeyes with 17 points and five rebounds and converted a key three-point play of her own with 2:25 left that cut the Marist lead to 57-55 before fouling out. Right before that, Maleeka Kynard hit her second three-pointer of the game that cut the Red Fox lead to five.
Kynard finished with eight points off the bench as did Martina Ellerbe as the Ohio State bench outscored Marist’s bench, 20-5. Ashley Adams added nine points inside as the Buckeyes dominated the scoring inside, 34-10.
For the second consecutive game, every Buckeye reached the scoring column. Cait Craft finished with six points, Alston eight, Raven Ferguson four and Scullion two.
