There was some good news for the Cavaliers on Wednesday night at Target Center. They don’t have to face the Minnesota Timberwolves again this season.
In the first meeting, on Nov. 4, the Cavs squandered most of a 23-point lead before holding on for a victory. They didn’t have that problem this time.
The Wolves scored early and often en route to a commanding 124-95 victory, the worst loss for the Cavs this season and their worst since a 116-78 loss at Houston on March 22, 2013.
The Cavs gave up opponent season highs in points in regulation and shooting percentage (54.9), but it was a surprisingly subdued coach Mike Brown who met with reporters afterward.
“Obviously, after a performance like that, you’re concerned,” he said as his team dropped to 3-6 overall, 0-6 on the road. “We’re nine games in and we’re going to keep going forward. We’re going to keep playing D. We’re going to keep trying to move the ball offensively until we figure this thing out.”
Asked if this wasn’t a step back, though, Brown said, “Based on the score and how we played, yeah. But that’s how life goes. Sometimes you take a few steps forward and sometimes you get knocked on your behind and you take a step or two backward. Now we’ve got to regroup and get on our feet and move forward again.
“I saw some things that make me think that this team has some fight and some character. … I saw some stuff on the court. I saw some stuff on the bench, listening to guys talk, how guys feel. You like some of the things that are being said — some of the things that were said on the bench and some of the things that were done on the bench by most of the guys. … You hear things and you see people and you think, ‘OK. We may have a chance here.”
They had no chance on Wednesday.
