The Columbus Clippers (65-57) fell at the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (58-63) 5-1 Sunday afternoon. Columbus missed out on a sweep of the RailRiders and ended a four game winning streak for Columbus. The Clippers had a successful road trip going 6-2.
Tyler Cloyd (9-7, 4.05 ERA) pitched a quality start, but never had the lead. He allowed three runs in six innings on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Nik Turley (2-2, 5.58 ERA) pitched struggled with walks, but didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning. He finished with five and one-third innings pitched and allowed no runs on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
The RailRiders jumped out to a lead in their first at bat. Antoan Richardson homered off of Cloyd and made it 1-0. The homer was the 20th allowed by Cloyd, most in the International League.
He gave up another in the fourth. A two-run shot by Kyle Roller extended the lead to three.
The Clippers stranded a lot of baserunners in the game. They left 10 aboard as a team and collectively hit 0-6 with runners in scoring position.
