Browns Rout Steelers 31-10

Brian Hoyer wanted to win a game where he didn’t send Browns fans to the emergency room with a heart attack. He did just that Sunday in a convincing 31-10 rout of the Pittsburgh Steelers at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Yes, it was a come-from-behind victory – the Steelers led 3-0 on a first quarter field goal. But after that it was almost all Browns to the delight of the roaring, cheering crowd at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Hoyer – who struggled in the first quarter when the Browns managed minus-8 yards – put three touchdowns on the board in the second quarter to kick off the furious 31-point rally.

It was only the second time that pesky Ben Roethlisberger lost to the Browns since 2004 to make his record against them 18-2.

Roethlisberger threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Lance Moore with 2:36 remaining to produce the final margin, but it was too little, too late.

The victory — the Browns’ second straight — improved Hoyer to 6-2 in a Browns uniform and hiked the Browns to 3-2, and 1-2 in the AFC North. The Steelers fell to 3-3 and 1-3 in the division.

The victory follows the Browns’ 29-28 triumph in Tennessee after they trailed 28-3 in the second quarter. That marked the largest road comeback in the history of the NFL.

The only big negatives were that the Browns lost center Alex Mack to what appears to be a serious lower left leg injury, and defensive lineman Armonty Bryant also left the game with an injury.
