The key run came four minutes into the second half as the Buckeyes broke open a one-point game with a 13-2 run, keyed by eight points from Alston.
Ohio State then sealed the deal with a 12-0 run midway through the second half which was started by an offensive rebound and put back by Alston. Hart, Mitchell, Asia Doss and Amy Scullion all had buckets in the spurt.
Both teams started slow but once they got traction, they hit each other with runs. A 7-0 Buckeye run was answered with a 10-0 Eagle run and it was an early 13-9 lead for Winthrop. The Eagles held the lead for nearly 15 minutes in the opening half and led 27-26 at halftime. Mitchell had a game-high 17 points in the first 20 minutes.
