Lady Buckeyes whip Western Michigan 83-47

Four Buckeyes scored in double-figures and redshirt-sophomore Lisa Blair recorded the first double-double of her career as Ohio State rolled to an 83-46 victory Sunday afternoon.

The country’s top scoring back court led the Buckeyes (7-4) offensively as freshman Kelsey Mitchell scored a game-high 22 points while junior Ameryst Alston chipped-in with 21 points and five assists. Cait Craft hit a pair of three-pointers and finished with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Blair enjoyed her afternoon on the court as she finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks in 22 minutes. All of those numbers were career-highs.

For the second-straight game, the Buckeye defense frustrated the opposition. After holding Arkansas State to just 32 percent shooting on Thursday, Western Michigan was limited to 27.4 percent from the floor and 23 turnovers which was an opponent-high for the Buckeyes.

The win was the third-straight for Ohio State and its fourth win in the last five games.

Western Michigan was led offensively by forward Miracle Woods who scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had three blocks.

The Buckeyes weren’t able to break open a close game until Mitchell sparked a run late in the first half. WMU was shooting just 35 percent and had 10 turnovers in the first 15 minutes but the Buckeyes weren’t able to take advantage, leading just 24-21. Mitchell then hit a jumper and ignited a 15-1 Buckeye run to end the half.

Mitchell scored 12 of the 15 points during the deciding run and the Buckeyes led 39-22 at the break. The freshman led all scorers at the half with 17 points while Ohio State shot 50 percent from the floor as a team.

Ohio State then pushed the lead out to 20 at the start of the second half and was able to cruise the rest of the way. Over the final nine minutes, the Buckeyes outscored Western Michigan 22-6 thanks in large part to seven points, five rebounds and four blocks by Blair.
