Marc Loving, Jae’Sean Tate, Keita Bates-Diop and Trevor Thompson all scored in double figures as Ohio State snapped a four-game losing streak Saturday with an 89-62 win over VMI.
Thompson, a sophomore transfer from Virginia Tech, scored seven points during a 15-2 run that gave Ohio State (3-4) control of the contest midway through the first half. He finished with 13 points, the most he has scored in Buckeye uniform.
JaQuan Lyle had a basket, two assists and a steal during the decisive run. He posted a line of eight points, seven assists and six rebounds.
Tate had 19 points, while Loving tallied 17 and Bates-Diop added 12.
QJ Peterson led the Keydets (3-4) with 23 points while Tim Marshall and Julian Eleby added 12 and 11, respectively.
Thanks largely to their big run, the Buckeyes took a 42-31 lead into the locker room at halftime, enjoying an advantage not only in points but also rebounds, assists, turnovers, blocks and steals.
They scored 20 of their 42 points in the paint, and turned six offensive rebounds into nine second-chance points.
The Keydets never got closer than 10 points in the second half.
The Buckeyes took advantage of a VMI roster that had no one over 6-6, posting a 40-14 advantage in points in the paint and winning the battle of the boards 48-27.
Loving and Thompson led the rebounding effort with 10 apiece while no VMI player had more than five.
