Knights beat Clippers 3-2

After back-to-back games in which the outcome was decided long before the ninth inning, the Columbus Clippers (17-9) and Charlotte Knights (12-15) went to extra innings, and unfortunately for the Clippers, they would fall in the tenth inning by a final score of 3-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 10,315 at BB&T Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon.

Right off the bat, Clippers were able to load the bases with no one out, and Giovanny Urshela came through with his team leading 15th RBI of the season, a sacrifice fly scoring Michael Martinez from third base to make it 1-0.

In the second inning, Anthony Recker’s second home run of the season over the wall in left center field put the Clippers up by two.

The Knights would come back, however, as solo home runs by Travis Ishikawa in the bottom half of the second inning and Danny Hayes in the fifth made it a 2-2 ball game.

The game remained scoreless until Andy Parrino’s walk off hit off of the wall in center field, scoring Jacob May from second to win the game in the bottom of the tenth inning.

Tommy Kahnle (1-0) picked up the win while Austin Adams (2-1) took the loss.

Both starting pitchers went 5 and 2/3 innings. Clippers right-hander Will Roberts gave up two earned runs on four hits while walking a batter and striking out three.

Knights righty Miguel Gonzalez gave up two earned runs as well on eight hits. He issued a pair of walks and punched out a season high seven batters.

The Clippers will enjoy an off day before beginning a three game series in Toledo against the Mud Hens on Friday night with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m. from Fifth Third Field.
