Buckeyes whip Canisius 89-56

Ohio State won its third consecutive game on Sunday afternoon, taking down Canisius by a score of 89-56. The win moves the Buckeyes to 8-3 on the season and drops the Golden Griffins to 2-7.

Kelsey Mitchell led all players with 19 points while Tori McCoy and Kiara Lewis added 17 points and 10 points coming off the bench, respectively. McCoy also hauled in 11 rebounds to notch her first career double-double. The freshman was 7-of-8 from the floor today, making her 20-of-22 shooting the ball in her last three games.

Makayla Waterman also had a good day for the Buckeyes, totaling nine points and nine rebounds in addition to dishing out five assists.

Ohio State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. It outscored Canisius 31-18 in the first quarter and held them to 15 or fewer points in every quarter after that. The Buckeyes were also whistled for just eight fouls today, a season low. They were able to keep the Golden Griffins away from the free throw line for the entire game; Ohio State attempted 21 free throws to Canisius’ zero.

The Buckeyes did have a tough day shooting from beyond the arc, making just three of their 18 shot attempts from out there, but they more than made up for it with a 52-16 advantage in the paint.

Four players for Canisius reached double figures in scoring; Sara Hinriksdottir led the way with 14 points and Lauren D’Hont grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.

Next up for Ohio State is a matchup against Alabama State on Friday, Dec. 16. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Value City Arena.
