City Council Approves Leasing Portion of Park for Farming
The City of Marion is seeking bids to farm land located within a city park. Marion City Parks Superintendent Mike Cheney asked the Airport, Lands, and Buildings Committee to allow him to advertise for bids and enter into a contract to lease about 26 acres of Sawyer-Ludwig Park for farming. The section to be leased is in the south and southwest section of the park.
Sign-Ups Begin for Land Conservation Program
The wait is over for farmers and landowners seeking the opportunity to enroll their farmland in the popular Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). The agency is encouraging landowners to participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) program; CRP general enrollment will run through Friday, August 27.
Farmland Preservation Program Helping Farms Grow
State farmland preservation funds are doing more than preserving land, according to a recent survey commissioned by the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Office of Farmland Preservation. Results revealed that Agricultural Easement Purchase Program funds are being used to help implement on-farm conservation measures and expand the farm business.
