The American Red Cross will conduct an open blood drive at the Marion Area Health Center, 1050 Delaware Avenue, on Monday, August 30th. Collection hours run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Donors from outside the facility should enter through Door #7 at the rear of the complex. The drive will be held in conference rooms A, B & C on the building’s lower level.

Algae Blooms Cause Closure of Three State Park Lakes
Officials have now put three Ohio state park lakes off limits because of toxic, blue-green algae blooming in the water.
A story from the AP says, warning signs were posted in recent days around Cutler Lake at Blue Rock State Park in eastern Ohio's Muskingum County. A park administrator says employees observed the algae for the first time on Aug. 1.
Company Accepting Applications for Ohio High Risk Pool
State Senator Karen Gillmor (R-Tiffin) announced Thursday that Medical Mutual of Ohio is currently accepting applications for the Ohio High Risk Pool, which gives Ohioans with cancer, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes and many other chronic medical problems, who can't get health insurance because of their conditions, access to coverage through a federally-funded, state high-risk insurance pool.

State Ending HIV Assistance for More Patients
The state plans to drop another 500 Ohioans from a program that pays for their HIV medications, in order to save Ohio nearly $3 million per year.
Officials are working on a plan to help only the sickest Ohioans with HIV pay for their medicine, said Jay Carey, a management analyst for the HIV drug program.
High-Risk Insurance Program for Ohioans Opens Soon
Ohioans with pre-existing health conditions, such as cancer or diabetes, can apply for coverage under a new high-risk insurance pool beginning Aug. 1, state officials said Thursday.
The insurance pool is a key piece of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul. The programs will be in place until 2014 _ when health insurance companies will no longer be allowed to deny coverage to people in poor health.
