Two Marion Students Awarded $40k Scholarships

The opportunity to attend the scholars’ dream universities, that’s how Brad Bebout, president of Marion Community Foundation, describes the intention behind two new impact scholarships awarded by the Foundation this spring.

The two recipients of Marion Community Foundation’s Robert M. and Dorothy C. Wopat Scholarship are Lauren Thomas, a senior at Marion Harding High School, and Aron Gibson, a senior at River Valley High School.

MCF Awards $100K in Scholarships with More Coming

Marion Community Foundation has announced its 2012 Scholarship Program awards of $100,000 among 85 scholarships which will be given to local high school graduates and college students. An additional $20,000 will soon be awarded to the Wopat Scholars.

Large Donation to Benefit Three Marion Groups and More

A generous gift of $400,000 from the estate of long-time Marion resident Mary H. Holloway has made possible the creation of four new funds to benefit Marion area organizations.

Separate funds have been created with Holloway’s gift to support the Humane Society of Marion County, the Marion Palace Theatre and the Marion Family YMCA, as well as the creation of a donor advised fund which will make grant awards based upon suggestions made by the fund’s donor advisor.

Donation Helps Ready After-School Program

The Boys and Girls Club of Marion County says they are thrilled to receive a $1,500 donation from the Marion Community Foundation to use towards purchasing supplies needed for the upcoming after-school program.

$325,000 in Grants Available to Area Non-Profits

Effective immediately, non-profit organizations in Marion County have potential access to more than $325,000 in grant funds.  The 2010 grant cycle is in progress at Marion Community Foundation and applications are now available.

Two Scholarships Created In Memory of Lost Ones

Two new scholarship funds have been created to celebrate the lives of Marion natives – one cut short and one lived fully.  According to Brad Bebout, president of Marion Community Foundation, these new funds memorialize SSG Shannon M. Smith and long-time nurse Marge Sorreles Davies.

Local Students Awarded Over $90,000

Marion Community Foundation has announced its 2010 Scholarship Program awards — more than $91,000, in 89 scholarships, to be given to 74 local students. This represents an increase of $40,000 in awards over last year.
