Two prairie tours, the first of the Claridon Prairie located five miles east of Marion, and the other of the Trella Romine Prairie Preserve near Green Camp will be conducted this year. The Claridon Tour is on Sunday August 19 and the Trella Romine Preserve tour will be held on Sunday August 26, each starting at 1:00 P.M and continuing until approximately 3 P.M.
Man Purchases Home, Finds Tombstones
When Michael Doughterly recently purchased his house on Congress Street in Marion he found he had more than just a new home. After the purchase, he discovered two tombstones in his new backyard. Looking for help on what to do, Doughterly contacted Susan Matthews, President of the Marion Genealogy Society and member of the Friends of Marion Cemeteries and OGS Cemetery Committees.
New Book on War of 1812 Offered by Marion Historical Society
In conjunction with the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, the Marion County Historical Society has released its latest publication. The War of 1812 – The Role of the Area Now Known as Marion County, Ohio features a review of key events of the war from national, state and local perspectives.
Historical Society Holding Annual Rummage Sale
The Marion County Historical Society is having a Museum and Membership Rummage sale on April 21, Saturday from 9-5 PM. The sale will be held in the auditorium at Heritage Hall and also in the parking lot behind the museum, weather permitting. A Members Only Presale will be held on April 20 from 4-6 pm. Organizers ask that you bring your Membership ID for admittance to the presale.
History of Marion Business at Heritage Hall
Much of Marion’s rich business and economic history has been captured in the new Inventors, Entrepreneurs and Merchants exhibit opening May 6 at the Marion County Historical Society Museum, Heritage Hall.
The event runs from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with a special dedication of new displays in the lower level commemorating longtime MCHS volunteer Gary Barnhart and his contributions to the Marion County Historical Society.
