The Ohio Department of Taxation Monday unveiled its first-ever adjustment of Ohio's individual income tax tables for inflation, a move that will save Ohioans an estimated $25 million annually starting with the returns due next spring.

State Average for Gas Prices Drops 8 Cents

Ohio gas prices are down 8 cents from last week and are a nickel cheaper than the national average.

The latest survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express shows the state's average price for regular-grade gasoline has fallen from $2.76 per gallon last Monday to the current $2.68. The national average for regular is now $2.73.

High-Risk Insurance Program for Ohioans Opens Soon

Ohioans with pre-existing health conditions, such as cancer or diabetes, can apply for coverage under a new high-risk insurance pool beginning Aug. 1, state officials said Thursday.

The insurance pool is a key piece of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul. The programs will be in place until 2014 _ when health insurance companies will no longer be allowed to deny coverage to people in poor health.

Ohio State Raising Room and Board by Over $400

Ohio State University's trustees have approved an increase that would charge resident students an average of $465 more for room and board in the next school year.

The board of trustees approved the 5.5 percent increase on Friday.

Ohio State University To Increase Tuition

The Ohio State University Board of Trustees today approved a two-part increase in tuition for Columbus campus undergraduates beginning with a 3.5 percent increase for the upcoming Summer Quarter. An additional 3.5 percent increase will take effect beginning Fall Quarter for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Water Rates Going Up, But Less Than Requested

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) Wednesday authorized Ohio American Water Company to increase water and wastewater rates at a much lower rate than was requested. With the approval of the new rates, the company will generate an additional $2.6 million annually, a 7.1 percent increase over current operating revenues.
