Squirrel Season Offers Hunters Preparation for Fall Hunting

Ohio's squirrel season will open on September 1 and provide hunters with an opportunity to take as many as six squirrels each day, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Ohio's squirrel season, a long-time tradition for many hunters, offers ample hunting opportunities for fox and gray squirrels across the state. This is an excellent time to take a youth hunting or scout for the upcoming deer and fall wild turkey hunting seasons. Legal hunting hours are one-half hour before sunrise to sunset daily.

Two Local Prairie Tours Offered

Two prairie tours, the first of the Claridon Prairie located five miles east of Marion, and the other of the Trella Romine Prairie Preserve near Green Camp will be conducted this year. The Claridon Tour is on Sunday August 19 and the Trella Romine Preserve tour will be held on Sunday August 26, each starting at 1:00 P.M and continuing until approximately 3 P.M.

Study – Ohioans Love Their Lakes, Concerned For Future

Almost 41 percent of Ohioans have visited a lake, pond, river or creek in the state in the past year, and of those, nearly one-half usually spend their water-related recreational time at Lake Erie, according to preliminary findings in a new report.

Public Comments Sought on Fish and Wildlife Rules

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources' (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is holding open house meetings in all five districts to discuss proposed rule changes to Ohio's fish and wildlife rules. The meetings will be Saturday, August 11, from 12-3 p.m. and are open to the public.
