State Patrol Focusing on Motorcycle Safety, Enforcement

May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and the Patrol would like to remind motorists that there will be an increase in motorcycles on the roadways with the warmer weather and to remind motorcyclists to ride trained and to ride sober. The rise in the number of motorcycles on the road is also being fueled by a 7 percent increase in registrations over the past few years.

Crash Closes State Route 4 Wednesday

An early morning crash has caused State Route 4 to be closed just south of the City of Marion. The crash occurred around 3:00am when the Ohio State Highway Patrol says 50-year-old James Walker was southbound on State Route 4 and struck a power pole while attempting to turn onto Gooding Road.

Patrol Reminds Drivers to Keep Their Eyes on the Road

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to keep their eyes and focus on the roadway while driving. From 2009 to 2011 there were 31,231 crashes that were caused by distracted driving in Ohio. Seventy-four of these crashes ended in a death and 7,825 included injuries.

Charges Filed in a Fatal January Crash

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced Tuesday that formal charges have been filed for a fatal crash that occurred on January 23, 2010. The crash occurred on State Route 423 at Kenton-Galion Road in Marion County.

Patrol Reports Large Increase in ID Theft

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has noticed an alarming trend – identity theft cases are on the rise. The Patrol has observed a 55 percent increase so far this year in identity theft cases resulting from traffic stops and contact made at Ohio driver license exam stations.

Alcohol Not a Part of Deadly Crash

On June 27, 2010, Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol investigated a crash on State Route 4 north of Newmans Cardington Road, in Marion County. Jacob E. Pfeiffer, age 19, of Marion and Sandra K. Haycox, age 29, of Richwood were both killed in the crash.

Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Monday at 5:46 p.m. The crash, on State Route 98 south of Patten Pike, in Marion County, killed a Bucyrus man.

Morral Mayor, Former Dog Warden Killed in Crash – Updated

Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Sunday at 9:13 pm. The crash, on State Route 231 at Baer Road in Grand Prairie Township, killed the Mayor of Morral.

Patrol Concerned Over Increase in Fatal Crashes

According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) crash statistics, current and preliminary totals revealed that this year, 566 lives have been lost on Ohio roadways in comparison to 499 in 2009 during the time frame showing a 12 percent increase in rural and urban fatal crashes.

Two Killed in Marion County Crash

Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a crash that occurred Saturday, June 6, at 10:20 pm. The crash killed two people and took place on State Route 4 north of Newmans Cardington Road.
